The third grade studies both Old Testament and New Testament stories. We learn prayers in English and in Latin. We concentrate on the Grammar stage of a Classical Curriculum education (focus on memorization and data). Parts of speech are taught in order to strengthen communication and writing abilities. Multiplication and division facts are reviewed throughout the year along with other disciplines of math including fractions, geometry, and pre-algebra. In social studies, we study communities – local, national, and worldwide with units on Greece and Rome. Science units include: plants, animals, and the solar system. In the third grade, the Good News of Jesus Christ is reinforced on a daily basis through prayer and the Sunday Gospel is read and discussed each week not only to understand its message, but to understand its meaning in our lives.
