Homeschool Enrichment
Saint Benedict Catholic School also offers enrichment for the homeschool families of the Richmond area. On Friday September 28, 12 families and 22 children gathered for a learning session on St. Hildegard von Bingen who was declared a doctor of the church on October 7, 2012. Father spoke about St. Hildegard and her friendship with Saint Bernard and then we visited their stained glass windows in the church. After that our class went to the art room in the parish school and our art teachers, Casey and Merenda through whom we partner with the Virginia Museum of the Fine Arts provided us with an exciting art lesson. The children explored the art of simple printmaking and silhouette painting investigating a mandala representing one of Hildegard’s visions of The Tree of Life. Each child created an original Tree of Life applying the use of symbols to express ideas and personal meaning. On Friday October 26 the parish school will provide another learning opportunity for the homeschool community and give a chance to enjoy the expertise of the faculty at the parish school.
