Dini Howell - Grade 3
For the past couple of weeks, every Wed. & Fri., the children have taken a 2-minute multiplication table quiz. We started with a quiz on 0s & 1s together & have proceeded with the others individually. The children will take the 2-minute quiz on each table until they receive 100% on the quiz. Some children are on the 6 table and others are still working on 3s, 4s, & 5s. Please ask your child what table they are currently on and please practice the tables in order (to see patterns in the products) and out of order. The tables were introduced in 2nd grade and were to have been mastered in 3rd grade. It is very important that the children can answer basic multiplication facts 0-12 in the "snap of a finger" in order to proceed successfully through 4th grade math. We have used unifix cubes (hands-on manipulatives), discussed patterns, studied the mulitplication table, and practiced problems, but memorization also needs to be acheived. As we continue to work on the tables, we will proceed in the text. Our next chapter is on algebra! Thank you for all the work you do with your child!
