Dini Howell - Grade 3

I hope everyone is enjoying a fun & relaxing summer!  I just wanted to remind everyone of the wonderful summer reading books required for upcoming 4th graders:

Our Strange New Land, Elizabeth's Diary, Jamestown, Virginia 1609 (A My America book) &

The Starving Time, Elizabeth's Diary, Book Two, Jamestown, Virginia 1609 (A My America book)

Both books are by Patricia Hermes.

In addition to these two teacher-chosen books, children are asked to read at least one other book of similar level.  Children are asked to keep a notebook summary for each of the teacher-chosen books.  This will not only help the children in their writing, but also keep the books fresh for when we return to school.  The journals should be brought to school the first week of school.  As children read, they should concentrate on parts of a story - characters, setting ,events, & problems/solutions.  Also, encourage your child to make predictions as they read.

Along with summer reading, please do not forget math.  A review of multiplication & division facts will help your child more easily transition to 4th grade math.

Enjoy your summer & see you in the fall!
