Gretchen Buis - Language Arts
Today's entry is a short one summarizing this week as one of review especially in terms of grammar and vocabulary. The objective with the vocabulary is to turn these "memory" words into every day words. Families can help a lot by checking the words and then using them with your son or daughter in every day conversation. The goal in grammar is to write precise, grammatically correct sentences. In literature, we continue to consider works in terms of character, plot, setting, theme. The sevens should be beginning to memorize Poe's "Annabel Lee" and the eights "Eldorado" for 10/30. The eights are also memorizing Frost's "The Road Not Taken" which dovetails really well with the high school application process. The eights should be gathering applications, making copies of the original, drafting responses to the various essays, and working with families on fine tuning biographical data. Despite a mid or late January deadline for submitting many high school applications (The Governor's School is usually Dec. 1), we as a school work in terms of a Nov. 23 deadline. If all meet this deadline, the the office can forward transcripts, administrative paperwork can be completed, and loopholes closed prior to Christmas break. The goal is to avoid last minute January pressure. Thank you all for your assistance.
