Announcements:

By the end of the week, we should be returning the Theme 5/Sight Word sheet to you. Thank you for practicing your words children. Any words that are circled, continue to practice reading throughout next week.
I will be sending home Theme 6 words next week and a list of describing words that we have been reviewing that will be used for a sharing time next week.

I hope you've been able to use the internet sites effectively.

Thank you for the glass jars. Please send in more small glass jars.
THey do not have to be baby food jars. Ex. small artichoke or red pepper size. Finding pine cones is a challenge at the moment. I hope to find some this week.

Most children took the Reading Counts quizzes this week and scored well. I will be retesting some this week. All children should be reading at a 1.5 level to be on grade level. Each time we take a Reading Counts quiz, I try to match up the level of the book with the child's reading level to insure passing, preferably a 9 or 10. A score of 7 or 8 means I may lower the level slightly, so the comprehension score will be higher. If your child needs to retake the quiz, continue to encourage them, ask questions about the story. Make sure they can tell you the main idea and the story order of events. THey are doing well. Some of the questions can be tricky.

The Parish playgroup
is coming to visit with us on Wednesday. I believe it's at 10:00, so we may miss library this week. Please practice the songs/fingerplays coming home as part of the Monday and Tuesday homework. Our class will be performing in fairytale plays thisSpring, so you'll have an opportunity to see them perform! Thanks for all you do daily, parents, with the children! They are progressing well this year.

Our Annual Valentine Pajama Party
will be on Thursday,February 11. The children should bring their pajamas that cover their legs in their backpacks. They will change into them after lunch. We wil enjoy treats, exchange cards, play a game, and watch 1/2 of Otis and Milo. We will watch the other half Friday afternoon. If you signed up to help out, get in touch with Mrs. Southward, so all who offered get to participate. Thanks for volunteering! Any volunteers that want to be at the party, please join us! The children may also bring a pillow and a towel or comforter that we can spread on the floor during the movie. That way, it's a real pajama party!!! Most sit up and eat popcorn!

Our class needs to decide on a class project for the Spring Gala. If anyone has any clever ideas, send them to Marsha Southward and she and I and Mrs. E will decide by February 22, which idea to go with. If you have artistic ability and want to help out with the decorating of our project, please let me know! Mrs. E gives good advice, as well.

If your child was unable to complete the homework or follow the directions, the consequence this week will be missed recess. Please send a note if it's uncompleted, explaining why. If your child has been reluctant to do the homework, please let me know, so we can remedy the situation. Thanks.
