Reflection Paper due Thursday, Feb. 11

Attached is the reflection paper based on the movie Joseph that we just finished viewing in class. The assignment is meant to promote some reflection on the nature of forgiveness and reconciliation.

STUDY GUIDE for 1st Semester Exam

Attached is a study guide for the 1st semester exam which will be given on Wednesday morning, January 20 from 8:30-10:00am. Students have had four quizzes and two tests, all of which should be in their possession. Studying the correct answers to those questions will help immensely when preparing for this exam.

Homework for Wednesday, Jan. 13

We will be capping off the story of Abraham by reading some excerpts from Scripture that have to do with his descendants. Come prepared to class tomorrow having read the following passages: Genesis 25:19-34; 28:10-22; 35:16-29; and 37:1-36. Please note that between Genesis 28 and 35 Jacob (Isaac's son...Abraham's grandson) gets tricked into marrying Leah, then marries Rachel, and he has children with both wives. That will be important to know in order to set the context for what comes later, especially for Genesis 37.

QUIZ #4 tomorrow

Tomorrow's quiz will cover everything we have reading regarding God's covenant with Abraham. Students began working on a review today that they are STRONGLY encouraged to finish at home in preparation for the quiz tomorrow. The assignment in class today was to identify and summarize in one's own words the main point(s) in each of the passages from Genesis listed here: 11:1-9; 12:1-9; 13:1-18; 14:17-20; 15:1-21; and 17:1-27. Also be sure to review the sheet attached and compare it with the notes taken in class on the day we discussed and filled in the chart.

QUIZ Tomorrow

We are spending the next couple weeks in class preparing for the semester exams coming up on January 20-22. Tomorrow's quiz will involve a comparison of the two flood stories in Genesis. Students may use any notes they have and their Bibles during the quiz. Attached you will find the two handouts that may help to prepare. We have gone over all of this in class, and this should be fairly straightforward.

Recent Homework Assignment

Here is the recent homework assignment comparing the three passages from Genesis to do with God's covenant with Abraham. We reviewed this in class as well.

Notes on the Patriarch Genealogies

In order to begin our discussion on God's covenant with Abraham, it is helpful to make note of the lineage of the patriarchs in Genesis 5 and 11. We discussed this in class and students should have these in their notes, but attached is a summary of what we covered in class earlier this week.

HOMEWORK for Tuesday, December 8

We will begin exploring the story of Abraham and the covenant that God makes with him. This story is very lengthy and we will not be able to read every part of it, so I have selected a few excerpts from Scripture to read. Please read these tonight and come to class prepared to discuss them tomorrow. Pay attention to the main themes and points as well as parts that you have questions about or are unclear to you. Write down any questions you have and bring them with you to class tomorrow. Please view the attachment.

Noah & The Great Flood

Today we began reading and discussing the covenant God made with Noah. We will continue examining this story over the next two days and wrap it up after the Thanksgiving break. Students should have a copy of Genesis 6:5-9:17 divided into two columns and a copy of a chart where they will outline the similarities and differences between the two columns. This is not required as homework, but rather will be used in class to help facilitate discussion and will be collected for a grade at the end of class on Wednesday.
