Monica Menzies - Kindergarten

January 9-13

This week we will focus on the letter Pp (Pippa Pig).

We continue to sound out short a words. This week we will begin to sound out words that have the short sound of i.

Our sight word this week is "and".

We will read stories about numbers and counting.

We willl learn to identify solid shapes. 

We will learn about St. Benedict and St. Scholastica.

On Monday, we will go to the VMFA. We will be looking at paintings and sculptures and identify the shapes the artist used to create their work. 

November 14-18

Our letter is Nn (Nyle Noodle).
We are reviewing our sight words (I, see, we, like, my).

November 7-11 (Grandparents Day this Friday)

It is Teddy Bear Week!

Our letter this week is Bb (Benny Bear).

Our sight word is "like."

We are reading stories about families. 

We are working on ordinal numbers (first, second, third, fourth,).

We are learning about Abraham and Sara.

We are learning about animals.

We will have a Teddy Bear picnic on Thursday.

Grandparents day is on Friday. If your child will be leaving school early on Friday, please send me an email or a note.

October 31-November 4 (Thursday-Tag Day & Friday- 12:30 Dismissal)

We are focusing on the letter Tt (Tiggy Tiger).

We are reading stories about families

We are learning to recognize family words (mother, father, sister, brother, etc.).

We are learning about action/moving words (verbs). 

October 17-21 (Conferences NEXT week)

This week we will be focusing on the letter M (Mimi Mouse).

Our sight word is "see."

We continue to read stories about colors and color words.

We continue to work on sorting and telling how items are alike and different.

We continue to learn about Noah.

We are learning about pumpkins and apples.

 

There will be no school on Friday, October 28 due to conferences. Please note that this is an update.

October 10-13 (No School on Friday, October 14)

This week we will be reading stories about colors.

We are working on recognizing, writing, and identifying the sound for S.

We will meet Sammy Seal who will help us come up with words that begin with the sound of S.

Our first sight word will be "I'.

We will continue to find different ways to sort objects. (color, shape, size, and purpose)

We will learn about Christopher Columbus.

We will continue to read about Noah.

We will learn about St. Theresa of Avila.

The week of October 3-7 (Picture Day this Tuesday)

This week we will complete our review of the alphabet. 

We will continue to listen for rhyming words.

We will learn to sort objects by size, color, shape, and use. 

We will look for similarities and differences in various items.

September 26-30

This week we have our first field trip to the Thompson Street Fire Station. Please remember to send in your permission slips ASAP!We will continue to review the alphabet focusing on the letters P, Q, R, S, and T. We will begin writing in our journals.We are listening for rhyming words. We continue to work on extending and labeling patterns. We are also learning about the Mass.We are reading the story of Adam and Eve and the first sin.We are also learning about Heaven.  We are looking for signs of Fall.

September 19-23

This week we continue to review the alphabet focusing on the letters K, L, M, N, and O.

We are have been discussing position words (left, right, before, after, between)

We are learning to extend and label patterns. 

We are learning about Adam and Eve and original sin. 

We have been learning about and looking for signs of Fall. 

Please sign and return the permission slip for our field trip to the Thompson Street Fire Station.  This will be in your child's yellow folder on Friday.

The Week of August 30-September 1

  • These next few weeks we will be focusing on classroom and school procedures. 
  • Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1 are 12:30 dismissal days for kindergarten.  Students will be dismissed from the middle door on Belmont Avenue.
  • Please pack a snack for your child. We will eat snack everyday!
  • The will be no school on Friday, September 1 and Monday, September 4, due to the Labor Day holiday.
  • Students will meet on the black top no later than 8:10 a.m.
  • We are looking forward to a great year!
