Saint
Benedict Catholic School’s WEEKLY
NEWS

3100
Grove Avenue, Richmond, VA 23221

December
6, 2011

Please
take the opportunity to check your child's progress in our new
grading program at MyStudentsProgress.com. Thank you for your
patience with the system. We are still working through a few kinks
and a learning curve for the new program.

The
Saint Benedict School Band

concert will be tonight, December 6 at 7:00 PM at Sheppard
Auditorium, Mary
Mother of the Church Abbey, 12829 River Road, Richmond, VA 23238.
The band will be playing with the Our Lady of Lourdes School Band and
Choir. The concert is free and open to the public. Come support the
school music programs, hear some Christmas favorites and celebrate
the season!

COOKIE
DOUGH UPDATE!

Orders were due yesterday (Monday the 5th), but there is still time
for last-minute orders! Any and all remaining orders MUST be
submitted by Wednesday morning, December 7th, so we can meet our
deadlines. The PTO is still in need of 4 volunteers to help with
cookie dough distribution on Thursday, December 15 from 2-6 pm.
Please email Anne Kennon at awkennon@hotmail.com
to volunteer. Even if you can only help out an hour or two-all time
will be greatly appreciated, and count toward your family's PTO
volunteer hours for the year! Classes with 100% participation will
receive a free Tag Day on December 14.

Student
Council is sponsoring a food drive
to help out Catholic Charities and Little Sisters of the Poor. Any
student that brings in 4 items of canned food or non-perishables by
December 19th will receive a free tag day on December 20th. Homeroom
teachers will keep a tally of the students who have brought in canned
goods. Little Sisters wrote to us asking for the following products:
Mouthwash, Kleenex, Canned Fruit, so those products will go directly
to Little Sisters of the Poor. Other canned goods will be donated to
Catholic Charities.

St.
Benedict Parish and School have hired a new Financial
Manager

to oversee the finances at the parish and school. We are currently
in the transition phase, and Mrs. Whitlock-Robinson will continue
with us until December 13. At this point, all payment, contract, and
financial aid information should go through the new Financial
Manager, Mrs. Janet Gambill. Mrs. Gambill can be reached by e-mail
at jgambill@saintbenedictparish.org.

Please
be aware of the following December events. December 8 is the
Solemnity
of the Immaculate Conception
.
It is a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics. We will have a School
Mass at 8:30am with Benedictine College Prep. Our Advent
Penance Service

will be held December 15 starting at 8:30am. Priests will be
available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and parents are welcome
to join us. This
is a change from the initial date.

Our Santa
Shop

for the young students will be held on December 16. Elementary
students may purchase gifts for their family from a Christmas store
set up by the 8th
grade class. And don't forget to mark your calendar for our Annual
Lesson's & Carols
.
The school Christmas program features inspiring Scripture passages
and seasonal songs from around the world. It will begin at 11:30am
in St. Benedict Church on December 21.

Safety
Reminder:
Please
remember that cars in the afternoon car line should be coming down
Cleveland from Hanover and turning LEFT into the alley. This allows
traffic on the other side of Cleveland and prevents confusion. Also
remember to obey all traffic signs, particularly STOP signs while in
the car line.

We
are now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year. If you
have a rising kindergarten student, please submit your application
now. Our first kindergarten screening is January 21 for parishioners
