Music Curriculum
Pre K-5 Grade Music (20 minutes daily, Monday through Thursday plus Liturgical Music Class weekly)
Pre-K Use of age appropriate tunes, percussion instruments, solfege singing with hand signs, and movement. K Use of age appropriate tunes, Ward Method supplemented with Music History, instrument families, percussion, and movement. Students will learn to recognize eighth notes through whole notes. 1 Use of Ward Method supplemented with Music History, instrument families, and percussion. Students will learn to recognize eighth notes through whole notes. Students will be introduced to Gregorian notation. 2 Use of Ward Method Ward Method supplemented with Music History, percussion, and introduction to piano. Students will be able to recognize and notate eighth notes through whole notes. Students will be able to recognize and notate notes in the treble clef and Gregorian notation. 3 Use of Ward Method supplemented with Music History, percussion, and class recorder. Students will be able to recognize and notate eighth notes through whole notes and various time signatures. Class includes an introduction to intervals both by sight and ear. Students will be able to recognize and notate notes in the treble clef, bass clef, and Gregorian notation. 4 Use of Ward Method supplemented with Music History, percussion, introduction to organ, and handbells. Students will be able to recognize and notate eighth notes through whole notes and various time signatures. Class includes more studies in intervals both by sight and ear. Students will be able to recognize and notate notes in the treble clef, bass clef, and Gregorian notation.

Class includes an introduction to melodic and rhythmic dictation.
Ward Method Fundamentals: Vocal exercises (tone quality, timbre), Intonation (eye and ear training, pitch), Rhythm gestures and dictation, Staff notation, Original creative work oral and written, Songs with and without words, Music Theory
6-8 Grade Music (100 minutes weekly)Ladies and Gentlemen split into Women’s Choir and Men’s Choir. Choir and following course combined are offered twice weekly. Six semester rotation of Music Theory and History Courses Ancient, Medieval, and Renaissance Music; Music of the Baroque; The Classical Time Period; Music and Romanticism; Twentieth Century Music; Music of the Catholic Mass (General Course- Chant, Polyphony, Contemporary Choral, Orchestral Masses, Liturgy of the Hours, Organ)
